What you will learn in this session:
Raja Yoga meditation is designed to bring us back into the awareness that i am a soul occupying a body. Each of us have thoughts - but we are not our thoughts, we have emotions - but we are not our emotions, we have a body - but we are not our body. These are things that "I" have and if i can have these things then, by definition, these things are not me.
So who is the 'me' who has these things?
Who is the person sitting quietly observing our noisy mind?
Who is the person sitting peacefully and observing our churning emotions?
Raja Yoga is known as the king of all yoga meditations - the ultimate technique for gaining mastery of our lives. It is a meditation where we take a further step back and notice the noticer. We come to realise that we are a being of peace and love - observing a body which is at times in peace and at times in chaos. We come to realise that we don't have to be merely the observer but we can choose to take mastery of this vessel we are in. We can choose our thoughts which in turn create our emotions. We become the master again.
One of the phrases used in Raja Yoga meditation is "Om Shanti". Om means "I am". Shanti means "peace". Om Shanti is a phrase that bring us back to the realisation that i am in fact a being of pure peace experiencing a chaotic existence. In a world of chaos and uncertainty - this type of meditation gives us an anchor point as we realise that who we are at our core is the only constant.
From this vantage point we choose to connect to love and shine that love through our body. We come back into a relationship with ourself and watch as every judgement we ever had about ourself falls away.
What this session typically looks like:
This session commences with an exploration of the basics of Raja Yoga. I will guide you through how we can notice that we are the eternal observer. We will find out where in the body we are located, and discover that we are, in fact a being of peace. This process will lead us into the meditative state of Raja Yoga as the truth of our existence is gradually revealed to us like an ever-opening lotus blossom.
